Grupo Villar Mir Composition
Grupo Villar Mir, S.A. is the parent company of Grupo Villar Mir, a privately-owned Spanish industrial group. Its origin lies in the corporate, entrepreneurial and innovative vocation of its founder and Chairman, Mr. Juan-Miguel Villar Mir.
The history of Grupo Villar Mir begins in July 1987 with the acquisition of Inmobiliaria Espacio and the construction company Sociedad General de Obras y Construcciones Obrascón, S.A. Ever since, Spanish and foreign companies have been incorporated into the Group from different sectors (real estate, electrometallurgy, electric energy production and commercialisation, fertilizers, construction, concessions and services), which in many cases were experiencing difficult circumstances. A management model based on tackling threats and finding opportunities through the use of professional management criteria has always been applied to these companies, generally maintaining their management teams, with medium and long-term business planning aimed at cost reduction and improving efficiency, financial strengthening of the companies and the creation of value for shareholders.
Grupo Villar Mir holds the principle of developing and consolidating its presence in the sectors in which it operates, entering new sectors only if they are directly related to the business activity fields in which it already operates, with a long-term outlook.
The two main cornerstones on which the Group’s strategy is based are internationalisation and R&D&i.
Thus, at 2016 year-end, 64% of the Group’s employees were working overseas and 86% of its property, plant and equipment were located abroad. In 2016, 72% of revenues were generated abroad and almost all of the EBITDA came from activities taking place outside Spain.
Likewise, the industrial processes used by the different Group companies are, in general, based on technologies developed internally and, in many cases, sold to other companies in their respective sectors.
